Chaz Baca Jr is Champion of 2012 Winter Leagues @ Octane Raceway

2012 Winter League Race Final @ Octane Raceway Sat. March 24,2012.

½ Mile GP Track c/c/w…23 Indoor Kart racers suited up and ready to do battle for bragging rights and to lay claim to millions of dollars in prize money and the solid 24k gold trophies handed out to the top 10.

There can only be one “Champion” of the Winter league series and going into the last race mathematically only two drivers are within striking distance of that ultimate goal.

Chaz Baca Jr (449) led the points race going into the Final by 11 points w/o the one race drop but Tony Rolfson (438), the 2011 AZIKC Champion, is right there ready to pounce should Chaz Baca Jr have an unusual race filled with mistakes and, or bad luck. The closest points battle was between Kyler Repella (395), Josh Walker (391) and Steve Lattanzi (382). Lattanzi fell from 3rd in the points standing to 5th after the forgetful disaster of a race in race #8 on Tuesday March 20 where he finished 29th overall. The silver lining there was with a one race drop headed his way. The points he will be dropping will be less than points dropped by Repella/Walker.

Josh Walker pulled a surprising no show so his total points will be 391 which was not be enough to hold onto 4th or propel him into 3rd overall.

Top qualifier is Tony Rolfson followed by Chaz Baca Jr… Steve Lattanzi…Mike McClaran…Kyler Repella…Cody Gutierrez…George Sklyarevsky…Johnny Pegna…Keith Sears…Scott Lodding.

Top finisher in the Heat was “Winner” Tony Rolfson who now gains 1 more point on Chaz Baca Jr who finishes 2nd, Steve Lattanzi, Kyler Repella, Mike McClaran, Cody Gutierrez, George Sklyarevsky, Josh Sarchet, Keith Sears, Charles Crowe round out the top 10. So far the plan to put Baca Jr at a bigger points deficit is not working.

We now go into the Final Main with Rolfson leading from pole position, Baca Jr parked right on his rear bumper and vowing to play it smart by staying within a spot or two of one of his toughest competitors. Meanwhile Repella needs to pass Lattanzi and hope Lattanzi gets passed by at least 4 to 5 more racers before the end of the 30 lap Main.

Final Main Top 10 Finish Order:

Tony Rolfson…Chaz Baca Jr…Kyler Repella…Steve Lattanzi…Mike McClaran…Cody Gutierrez…Keith Sears…Josh Sarchet…Charles Crowe…Phillip Schroeder.

As you can see neither breakaway plan of Tony Rolfson or Kyler Repella worked and when all said and done:
