2012 Octane Raceway Winter League Race #5 results from Feb. 28, 2012

Thirty three racers signed up to compete on Track 2 c/w, but one fell victim to a headache of epic proportions and failed to make the trip from Tucson. Between you and me and that fly on the wall, his, new to this kart league racing, brother has been gaining ground on this K&N NASCAR series driver and the ego has been threatened. I can only imagine that the 125 mile ride to Phoenix has been much different than the ride back to Tucson post league night. I do like both of these kart racers under development but wonder if that troublemaker by the name of Sibling Rivalry comes along for the ride.

Another, league regular, Keith Sears had to bail out last minute due to a last minute work assignment. I hear he’s working as a male escort or Gigolo and when his “Clients” call he’s off and running. He caters to a select clientele and for whatever the reason always has a briefcase filled with Denture adhesive and hearing aid batteries. I think he woos the older more mature ladies. He calls then the “Centurions’”. I hear they are big tippers!

Up first is the 5 lap Qualifiers into the 25 lap Heats. Three groups.

Group 1 Top 5:

Tony Rolfson…Kyler Repella…Scott Lodding…Chris Wynne…Charles Crowe

Group 2 Top 5:

Chaz Baca Jr…Josh Walker…Cody Gutierrez…Don Angel…Ronald Jones

Group 3 Top 5:

Steve Lattanzi…Josh Sarchet…Keaton Swane…Johnny Pegna…Mike McClaran

Josh Sarchet was glued to the rear bumper of Steve Lattanzi for 24 of the 25 laps but decided to make a move on the last right hand turn to the Checkered Flag but in trying to fit a 4’ wide kart into a less than 1’ space bounced Lattanzi out of the way and into the barriers. No way Jose’ cried the race officials, the spectators and most of all, leader going in and now behind Sarchet across the line, Lattanzi. It was fixed post race to everyone’s satisfaction including Sarchet who admitted fault to causing the incident. Thanks Josh it was the right thing to do especially with sooooooooooooooooo ,many eyeballs tuned. Too many witnesses and not enough hush money to go around.

Next up are the 3 Mains with the “C” Main on Track first.

40 laps and winner goes to the tail end of the “B” Main. Think dehydrated exhaustion.

“C” Main Top 5:

Ryan Prince(advances to the “B” Main)

Nick Evans

Frank Beck

Krystal Wright

Greg Gillum

“B” Main Top 5:

Logan Swane(advances to “A” Main)

Ronald Jones

Mike McClaran

Chris Wynne

Charles Crowe

“A” Main Top 5:

Chaz Baca Jr (podium)

Steve Lattanzi (podium)

Tony Rolfson (podium)

Josh Sarchet

Kyler Repella

With another win by Chaz Baca Jr in his Heat and the Main he scores max points of 57 and adds to his point spread between himself, Tony Rolfson and Steve Lattanzi. Baca grows closer to the Grand Nationals prize of FREE entry if he wins the 2012 Octane Raceway Winter League Series. BIG THANKS to CalSpeed Karting Center for that outstanding prize.

One off race for Baca could flip flop the points battle and we have 4 races left to see if that happens and breaks his ongoing winning streak of 5 league series in a row. May have to throw an extra 50# of weight his way to do it! We will be factoring in one race drop which should bring the points closer.

Top 10 in Points after 5 races/with points drop factored in for Top 5

Chaz Baca Jr…279/227

Tony Rolfson…269/218

Steve Lattanzi…256/214

Josh Walker…248/205

Kyler Repella…239/201

Mike McClaran…217

Cody Gutierrez…211

Scott Lodding…206

Josh Sarchet…197

Joe Landram…177

So ends another exciting chapter in the quest for the top spot on the Octane Raceway winner’s podium. See you all next week.
