Joyce Clark Middle School Field Trip to Octane Raceway

Thursday May 10, 2012
Twenty two Jr National Honor Society students of Joyce Clark Middle School made the 3 hour trip to Octane Raceway for the second year as a part of an educational mixed with fun school field trip. They were chaperoned here by teacher Victoria Free and two other parents. Indoor kart racing on Track 1 and then Track 2 anchored their time here and a surprise third race for the fastest 13 of 22 was held before they headed back to Sierra Vista with nothing but smiles and high fives. It was a much needed break from the daily rigors of schoolwork. They did head out with a comprehensive five question math questionaire with a bonus question thrown in to test not only the learned math skills but to test the powers of reading comprehension, aka "trick question".
Awesome group of students who were focused on the task at hand and raced the Jr karts like pro's even though it was the first time for many behind the wheel of anything motorized. A few earned the "Spinderrella" nameplate but being fast learners did not hold onto to it for very long before someone else took it over. Fun times and not one dreaded "Black Flag" thrown by any of the track marshals. Everybody went back to Sierra Vista with something Octane whether it be a new Octane membership shirt for being the fastest on Track 1(J-Capsy), Track 2 (Rollie Pollie). Cara Tinkler earned the coveted Octane Raceway membership shirt for being the main student contact to putting this event on the calendar for her schoolmates and friends. Octane Raceway keychains were given to every student as a thank you parting gift. This is the second year that the JNHS students from Joyce Clark Middle School have chosen Octane Raceway as the place to be for a few hours of competitive indoor kart racing fun with each other.
Thank You Victoria Free, Chaperones, and of course the JNHS students of Joyce Clark Middle School.

It was great having you here,
