NASA AZ League Race # 3 Wrap up

With 16 racers signed up but only 12 showing up to compete for Millions of Dollars and a Full Ride Sponsorship on a Major Motorsports Team riding on winning this NASA AZ league this reporter was surprised to see Porsche 944 Spec Series Driver, Austin "The Kid" Newmark, miss this all too important event. Going into this third race of five with no race drops was critical to amassing enough points to walk away with this exceptional prize package. Do dreams come true or set for life mean the same things to the young racer of today. I think not! A collective cheer was heard for miles around when it was announced that a no show by Newmark was imminent.

The arrival of, currently first in points, Ronald "Lone Wolf" Jones was met with just the opposite. Boo's and hisses coming from the racing gallery upon his early arrival led one to believe that Jones was the one to beat today. Read on and your inquiring minds will have an answer.

Ronald Jones sets the bar higher with an outstanding performance in today's NASA AZ League race # 3. The Trifecta of League race wins was set today by Jones and to top it all off set fast time on Track 2 with a 24.333 on lap 43 in the 60 lap Main.

NASA AZ welcomes newcomer Aaron Gaghagen to the series and even though Aaron struggled he never gave up and did not interrupt the flow of the race by knowing where to go when the leader wanted by. His times kept dropping so with more seat time he will be right up there battling with the frontrunners in no time. Thanks Aaron, good to have you on board.

We also had a new face with Wayne Porter, brother of Kent Porter. I think the agreement was if I bring you can't beat me in front of my NASA friends. Wayne reluctantly signed the agreement and managed to finish behind brother Kent as instructed. These must be Team Porter orders and smells of scandal! It was only a one race agreement claims Wayne, next race the gloves come off. Sibling rivalry at it's best.

Eric Jacobsen is now strapping 5# weights to his ankles to distribute the weight away from the tail end of the kart and give the front tires a better chance of grip. Seems to be working as he finished top 5 in both the 36 lap Heat and the 60 Lap Main. He is now 3rd place in points overall.

There seems to be head turning contest between certain racers and Leland Forbes the III, IV or V, is by far the winner of that competition, with head turning that would make a mere mortal dizzy. I think he's up to play a part in the new Exorcist movie and a 360 head turn will be in the script. He's at the 180 degree mark now. F1 is thinking of installing a side view mirror system just for him. No extra charge.

The track battles between Kent Buckley and NASA AZ Pres. Tage Evanson were epic today and Evanson managed to stay ahead of Buckley at the conclusion of the Heat & the Main. Kent Buckley is now 2nd in points with Tage Evanson on the move up and currently in the 5th place points spot.

Adam Vega has got to be the unluckiest and luckiest racer out there. Two karts out of the three he picked had a mechanical issue but early enough so that his races were not impacted. Must be that 4 leaf clover he carries around. You have any lucky Lotto numbers you want to recommend ?

Filming all this activity from his helmet cam is Stenos "The Nos" Wijaya. If it's Friday you just may find the him down at F1 Race Factory getting in some seat time to sharpen those karting skills. Unfortunately the weight system is not available to him as he has to add 500# just to make the 200# minimum!!!

One other honorable mention before we get to the results goes out to Segio Perez. In the 4 way battle with Brian "Muscle Shirt" Turner,Leland "Head Turner" Forbes and Wayne "The Other Brother" Porter, Sergio running at the back of that pack hits the brakes hard on the back straightaway and turns into "Spinderrella"! I think he also lost the glass slipper, so if you find it please return to him at the next NASA AZ race which is Sunday October 31st, Halloween. I'll bring the candy so no door to door Trick or Treating will be required.

Great day of indoor kart racing was had by all with stacked up and three wide passing in some of the corners was the norm. Always fun to watch.

Time to get to the results.
